10,833 PTE Tutors With Bachelors Are Set For JSS Deployment
According to Dr. Nancy Macharia, CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Commission would be promoting 36,829 teachers the next week.
10,833 primary school teachers out of the 36,829 will be promoted through placement in junior secondary schools (JSS).
Regarding the advancements, she disclosed that they will receive a promotion by being assigned to teach at the junior secondary school (JSS) level.
Dr. Macharia informed lawmakers that the Commission was now mapping teachers who had applied through the Commission’s online platform when testifying before the National Assembly’s Education Committee, which was presided over by Hon. Julius Melly (Teinderet Member of Parliament).
In order to identify additional teachers who are qualified to be sent to junior secondary schools, Dr. Macharia told the MPs that the mapping process for primary school teachers who are qualified to teach in junior secondary schools is underway.
Jamleck Muturi, the chair of the TSC, and other commissioners were part of Dr. Macharia’s retinue to the National Assembly.
The TSC CEO also disclosed that 7,282 teachers had been chosen for deployment by the Commission.
“The nation has to be made aware of any plans to promote and assign teachers who are already working in elementary schools to junior secondary schools. And if so, how many tutors will receive an increase? questioned the Head of the Committee.
She said, “TSC has recognized 7,282 primary school teachers with sufficient qualifications to teach in secondary schools as qualified for deployment to Junior Secondary Schools through the verification of personal data.”
According to the Commission to qualify for deployment to JSS includes:
- A diploma in education or a bachelor’s degree in education
- At least a C+(Plus) mean grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination or its equivalent
- At least a C+ (plus) in the two teaching subjects in KCSE or its equivalent
- Must have studied at least eight units in each of the two teaching subjects
P1 teachers will move to job grade C2 while those with Diploma will move to job grade C1. After completing three years, the teachers will move to the next job group automatically.
The teacher shortage in junior secondary schools, which has become a controversial problem among stakeholders in education, will be helped by students, according to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia.
The Commission has hired 30,550 teachers (one teacher per class), bringing the teacher shortage at Grade Seven to 30,550, whereas the teacher establishment for Grade Seven level is 61,000 (at least two instructors per class).
The Committee will discuss the Supplemental Budget projections for the 2022/2023 fiscal year during a second meeting with TSC representatives today.
