2,000 university students who are underage will not receive loans
Around 2,000 students would be denied loans even if they are eligible since they were minors when they sat the exam.
Charles Ringera, the CEO of the Higher Education Loans Board, has made it plain that the loans will be kept in reserve for these students until they reach the minimum age requirement.
Applications for funding from the University Financing Program must be submitted by August 27th for students who hold birth certificates.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam was taken by candidates the year before they turned 18 if they did not match the qualifying standards, they would not be given consideration for the loans.
Contrary to what you may think, you are not allowed to engage into any form of arrangement with a juvenile, according to the law of contracts, said Ringera. The chief executive officer also said that before students are eligible for scholarships and loans, they must undergo essential financial management courses.
Ringera informed the students that the government has taken measures to ensure there are resources available to continue sponsoring the new model. Ringera was making a reference to the fact that the government has put in place procedures.
According to him, the government has set aside Sh23 billion this year to finance the new cohort under the new model, and Sh8.7 billion is reserved for continuing students at both universities and TVET institutions.
