TSC TPD Training for Teachers: Course Information, Cost, and Method of Instruction
On September 22, 2021, Nancy Macharia, CEO of TSC, James Torome, Akello Misori, and Collins Oyuu from KNUT officially launched the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program.
The main goal of TPD training is to advance teachers’ professional development.
The TPD training course is intended for TSC instructors in elementary and secondary schools, both public and private.
The TSC chose a number of universities to provide TPD training, including Mount Kenya University, Kenyatta University, Riara, and Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).
The program is only open to teachers who are registered with the TSC.Cost of TPD Training
Every year, teachers must pay Ksh 6,000. Therefore, a teacher would have spent a total of $80,000 (180,000 Kenya Shillings) on TPD training over the period of 30 years.
Mode of Instruction
Both in-person and online learning options are available to qualified teachers. While online courses can be completed during teachers’ leisure time at work, face-to-face learning will take place over the summer and winter breaks.
Teachers can download and install the TPD Mobile App from MKU on their phones. Payments, registration, access to learning resources, and communication are all made easier with the app.
Outline of the TPD Course (Chapters & Modules)
The TPD course is divided into modules and chapters (units).
- Introduction Module: Consists of five chapters and takes one year to complete.
- Level 1 Module: Comprises five chapters, with each chapter taking one year to complete. Hence, it takes five years to finish Level 1. The same pattern applies to Level 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
- Level 2 Module: Five years (five chapters)
- Level 3 Module: Five years (five chapters)
- Level 4 Module: Five years (five chapters)
- Level 5 Module: Five years (five chapters)
- Level 6 Module: Five years (five chapters)
A teacher can take a maximum of seven years per level. Consequently, completing the entire TPD course requires a minimum of 31 years.
Certificate and Transcript
Upon completion of each chapter, teachers will receive a transcript. A copy of the transcript will also be sent to TSC.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of the entire TPD course. The certificate must be renewed every five years.
