Three students detained for torching a dormitory.
Three St. Mary’s Ndeiya Girls students were taken into custody by the police on Tuesday, July 25, after they were accused of setting fire to their dorm.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has identified the students, who are being detained at the Tigoni Police Station pending questioning.
According to Kariuki Mwangi, the Ndeiya Sub-County Education Director, the fire catastrophe affected 236 children, or nearly half the population.
Due to the damage caused by the fire to further dorms, there were an additional 177 losses in terms of bedding and personal things.
The fire affected 410 students in all.
The incident that happened on the evening of Saturday, July 22 left a lot of students out in the cold. Firefighters and medical staff from the Kenya Airport Authority, however, moved rapidly to stabilize the situation.
As a result, the school was shut down permanently as administrators awaited the board’s instructions on what to do next. In order to ensure that the academic calendar wouldn’t be interrupted and that students could resume their studies on schedule, the management declared that the school was taking the necessary precautions.
250 mattresses were supplied by Limuru Constituency legislator and engineer John Kiragu to mitigate the damage and save the parents the cost of buying new ones.

Kiragu pledged that the administration would also be involved “so that there is proper surveillance through CCTV so that we can watch everything going on in the school.”
In order to assist parents in restoring a modernized dormitory, the congressman noted that his office has set aside funds through the NG-CDF emergency purse.
Kiragu also pledged to assure the students’ comfort by providing them with all the amenities they could need at school, such as water and other infrastructure. The MP emphasized that by doing this, students will have an environment that is supportive of their academic endeavors and will help lessen unrest at the school.
The lawmakers also commended the administration, students, and neighborhood for working together to manage the issue and avert any injuries or fatalities.
