HELB will assign student groups or batches the next week.
Just 23% of students with KUCCPS placements have asked for funding for their university study, according to the Higher study Fund (HEF) website.
The Higher Education Loans Board’s (Helb’s) CEO, Charles Ringera, revealed in an interview on Tuesday that there have not yet been more than 100,000 applications.
“For planning considerations, we require a critical mass of students to have applied… According to Ringera, we currently have 65,000 applications, and 10,000 more are being submitted.

The HELB CEO also disclosed that if the government receives at least 100,000 applications, students will be informed of their financing groups.
According to Ringera, by the end of the following week, we will have received 100,000 applications, so we will already be aware of the number of students who were assigned to each finance category.
The head of the Loans Board also said that if there aren’t enough applications by a certain date, the government will extend the deadline.
The government has divided needy students into four categories under the new funding plan: the weak, the desperately poor, the poor, and the less poor.
Students from lower-income families will be given preference when it comes to awarding scholarships, however students from middle- and upper-class families will still be eligible for loan support from HELB.
Students who didn’t apply for financial aid before the new system went into effect must do so using this portal.
