Revised Teacher Salary Scale in Kenya As Pay Increases Go Into Effect
More information regarding the deal has emerged since the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) received the first payment following the ratification of the agreement on Monday.
The salary range for teachers will increase from Sh139 to Sh5,141, according to Nancy Macharia, CEO of TSC. Different teaching responsibilities are paid differently under the new compensation structure.
Teachers in primary schools
Primary school teachers would make between Ksh 22,793 and Ksh 28,491 per month under the new system.
Level C1
Primary, secondary, and lecture positions in job grade C1 will pay salaries ranging from Ksh 28,491 to Ksh 35,614. Primary Teacher I, Lecturer III, and Secondary Teacher III all fall under this group.
Class C2
Teachers in Group C2 will receive wage raises ranging from Sh1,666 to Sh3,677, including Senior Teacher II, Lecturer II, Special Needs Education Teacher II, and Secondary Teacher II. Their pay will range from Ksh 36,621 to Ksh 45,776.
Level C3
Grade C3 lecturers and teachers can expect to make between Ksh 44,412 and Ksh 56,514.
Level C4
Pay increases will range from Sh2,276 to Sh1,835, and they will apply to teachers in job category C4, which includes Senior Lecturer IV, Senior Master IV, Special Needs Education Senior Teacher in Primary and Secondary Schools, and Deputy Head Teacher II.
Class C5
Pay hikes range from Sh139 to Sh2,498 for grade C5, which includes Senior Master III, Senior Lecturer III, Head Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher I, and Curriculum Support Officer II. Due to the merging of two levels into one group, some teachers in this category will get a little raise. The pay range for Grade C5 teachers is Ksh 62,272 to Ksh 78,667.
Level D1
Salary increases for members of Group D1, which includes Senior Master II, Deputy Principal III, Senior Headteacher, Senior Lecturer II, and Curriculum Support Officer I, range from Sh785 to Sh1,693. Senior Master I, Senior Lecturer I, and Deputy Principal II will each receive Sh1,078 and Sh1,308. This group’s salaries range from Ksh 77,840 to Ksh 95,101.
Class D2
The salary range for those in job grade D2, which includes senior master 1 teachers and deputy principals 2, is between 91,000 and 110,000.
Class D3
The rises for Principals and Deputy Principals 1 in Grade D3 range from 538 to 1,496 shillings.
Level D4
The pay rise for Senior Principals in Job Group D4 would range from 282 to 1,690 shillings. Senior Principals in grade D4 make a starting salary that ranges from Ksh. 118,000 to Ksh. 143,000.
Class D5
The salary increases for Chief Principals in Job Group D5 are Sh4,367 and Sh1,878, respectively. Their salaries range from 131,000 to 159,000 Kenyan shillings.
Additional Advantages
Reevaluating teachers’ allowances will also assist them financially, improving their general situation. To help with the growing expense of living, they will receive the commission’s normal annual raise.
dwelling allowance
Teachers in rural areas will now receive housing allowances ranging from Sh3,850 to Sh25,000, an increase from the previous range of Sh3,850 to Sh21,508. Housing stipends for teachers in Nairobi will now range from Sh6,750 to Sh50,000.
