New TSC Requirements, Duties, And Recruitment Guidelines For School Principals
In their 2018 Career Progression Guidelines, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) defined three unique classes for Secondary School Principals. These grades are Principal (T-Scale 13), Senior Principal (T-Scale 14), and Chief Principal (T-Scale 15), according to the Circular.
Principal T-Scale 13: This grade is for secondary school administrators. The Principal is in charge of overseeing instruction and serving as the institution’s chief financial officer.
Additionally, they are responsible for creating and putting into effect curriculum-related strategies, policies, programmes, and activities within the institution. It is difficult to advance to this grade, and it is dependent on job opportunities.
A teacher must fulfil a number of requirements in order to be appointed to this grade, including serving as Deputy Principal II/Senior Master I T-Scale 12 for a minimum of three years, possessing a Master’s degree in a relevant field, finishing pertinent Training for Professional Development (TPD) modules, holding a valid teaching certificate, displaying the capacity to supervise and mentor other teachers, and meeting the minimum age requirement.
Senior Principal T-Scale 14: The Senior Principal grade is for secondary school administrators, just like the Principal grade. They oversee the execution of educational strategies, policies, programmes, and curriculum activities as well as the institution’s operational management as lead educators and accounting officers. Promotion to Senior Principal is difficult and dependent on employment availability, just like the preceding grade.
A teacher must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution, hold a valid teaching certificate, have completed the pertinent TPD modules, be a Principal/Deputy Principal I T-Scale 13 for a minimum of three years, have a satisfactory performance appraisal and/or Performance Contracting rating, demonstrate the ability to supervise and mentor other teachers, hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant field, and meet any additional requirements imposed by the department.
Chief Principal T-Scale 15: This grade is similarly designed for secondary school administrators, with the Chief Principal acting as both the chief academic and financial officer. They are in charge of running the school’s operations and carrying out the curriculum’s activities, plans, and policies. Promotion to this grade is competitive and dependent on employment opportunities.
A teacher must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution, hold a valid teaching certificate, have completed the pertinent TPD modules, have served as Senior Principal T-Scale 14 for at least three years, have a Master’s Degree in a relevant field, maintain a satisfactory performance appraisal and performance contracting rating, demonstrate the ability to supervise and mentor other teachers, hold a valid Master’s Degree, and meet any additional requirements outlined by the Board of E
Due to the fact that these two grades are promotional, candidates for these posts must go through TSC interviews. As part of the hiring process, the Commission posts job openings, shortlists applicants, and conducts interviews with those candidates.
