TSC Announces New Commuter Allowances in Consistent with CBA 2021-2025
Teachers in Kenya are given a commuter stipend by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which acts as financial assistance for them to pay for transport costs to and from work.
This payment is intended to help educators manage the costs of their daily transportation needs, such as the journey from their homes to their places of employment.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) issued increased commuting allowance rates for teachers in the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Based on the employment grades of instructors, the following table breaks down these allowances:
- Grade B5: A 4,000 commuter allowance
- Grade C1: A 4,000 commuter allowance
- Grade C2: A 5,000 commuter allowance
- Grade C3: A 6,000 commuter allowance
- Grade C4: 8,000 in commuter compensation
- Grade C5: 8,000 commuter allowance
- Grade D1: 12,000 commuter allowance
- Grade D2: 12,000 commuter allowance
- Grade D3: 14,000 commuter allowance
- Grade D4: 14,000 commuter allowance
- Grade D5: 16,000 commuter allowance
These commuter benefits are in line with TSC scales and teachers’ grades. This allowance’s main objective is to lessen the financial burden on instructors who have to commute to their individual schools or places of employment.
