Kuppet & School Leaders Worried by Gov’t Delay on School Capitation

The national government is allegedly adopting activities that are having a negative influence on schools, according to the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET). Akelo Misori, the secretary general of KUPPET, has brought attention to a critical issue involving the government’s withholding of school capitation monies in a statement. Administrators at the schools are now in a precarious position as a result of this circumstance.

Misori emphasised that some school principals are afraid to publicly acknowledge that they have not gotten the urgently required monies from the national government, despite receiving four circulars addressing this issue since September 15. He emphasised that in order for schools to run effectively, the Ministry of Education must make sure that these funds are released on time.

Misori expressed these worries in a speech during the annual general meeting (AGM) of the union, which was held in Nandi South. He voiced grave concern that the government’s refusal to release cash comes at a key time when schools are about to start a crucial test period. During this time, it is crucial to properly prepare the pupils, including by providing the practical tools they will need.

Misori further clarified the considerable sum of over Sh10 billion that has not yet been given to the school principals and is still unaccounted for. In order to ensure the stability and efficacy of the educational system, the government must respond immediately to this budgetary gap and find a solution.
