CS Machogu mandates that classes end at 3:45 p.m.
Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, has directed primary and secondary school principals to make sure that classes begin at 8 a.m. and stop at 3.45 p.m. on weekdays.
According to Machogu, the Ministry allows for a maximum of 6 hours of instruction each day, adding that learning should be organic rather than coerced.
He claimed that despite having a three-hour teaching day, Finland is known for having a top-notch educational system.
He emphasized the need of schools maintaining regular school hours so that students can take part in physical education activities and manage their own learning.
The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) representatives paid the Cabinet Secretary a courtesy visit at his office in Jogoo House, led by Chairman MIndimuli Kahi.
Belio Kipsang, the State Department of Basic Education’s Principal Secretary, was present for the event.
However, Machogu complimented KESSHA for its assistance in helping the government manage education, particularly the government’s ongoing educational reform.
Kipsang urged KESSHA’s leadership to control how much school uniforms cost its members.
In order to make it simpler for principals to run secondary schools, Indimuli brought up a number of issues that he wants the Ministry to address.
The chairperson listed a few of the concerns the organization wants the ministry to address, including capitation payments for the free day secondary education program, school uniforms, the distribution of curriculum materials, the administration of co-curricular activities, and auditing of school budgets.
The Ministry will form a team to investigate the problems and offer remedies, according to the Cabinet Secretary.
However, he urged the group to offer ideas for potential solutions to the problems.
Senior Ministry officials and KESSHA executive officials were present during the meeting.
