ECDE Teachers Salary Scale, Fully Reviewed, 2023–2024, Per County
reviewed the 2023 ECDE pay.Teachers and caregivers who work in the field of early childhood development and education (ECDE) now have clearer compensation information thanks to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
The starting salary for ECDE instructors in Nairobi (Cluster 1) should range from Ksh 14,961 to Ksh 15,842. The minimum salary in other areas (Cluster 4) should range between Ksh 13,211 and Ksh 14,092.
According to SRC, it is untrue that ECDE teachers are paid less than the statutory minimum wage. Several sources claim this. For these projects, we used the instructors’ basic income rather than their gross salary.
Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers’ compensation is being sought to be increased by the Ministry of Education despite the Salary and Salary Commission’s desire to reduce it.
County governments requested information from the SRC on the pay and benefits of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers on January 13, 2023.
The SRC is currently examining the salary of all public employees, including ECDE teachers, as part of the third pay review cycle, which includes this phase. By June 2023, the results ought to be available.
The Permanent Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, spoke on the significance of the work done by ECDE teachers in pre-primary schools and requested the Senate committee to speak with the SRC about increasing the teachers’ salaries.
In order to provide Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) instructors throughout all counties with a uniform service plan, Dr. Kipsang requested that the government synchronize its efforts. By doing this, the compensation disparity between full-time and contract instructors would be eliminated. He believes that a strong ECDE can reduce the cost of education by 15%.
The man remarked, “The work that ECDE teachers do can’t be compared to other levels of education because they are the first to interact with and bring every child into the school journey.”
The 2010 Kenyan Constitution established the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC). It performs two key tasks. It is in charge of determining and fixing the salary for all State employees in the first place.

Second, it provides instructions to the federal, state, and municipal governments on how to pay and benefit other public employees.
