Education CS Issues Warning to Principals About Extra Fees
Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, warned secondary school principals against unjustifiably hiking tuition prices at the start of the third term in a determined address delivered at Kakamega High School on September 1, 2023.
Machogu stressed that any school administrator seen soliciting extra tuition payments from parents would be subject to severe disciplinary measures.
He told parents that any attempts by school administrations to raise tuition costs would not be accepted by the government. He made clear that tuition prices will closely follow the rates set by the government, with national schools needing an annual payment of Ksh 53,000.
“No principal or school administration board has the authority to increase the allocated amount,” the CS’s message was unmistakable. We acknowledge the financial difficulties parents experience, thus any departure from the suggested fees is unacceptable.
He further emphasized that any principle found collecting additional payments from parents will face harsh sanctions. This statement served as a sharp warning of the repercussions for anybody looking to take advantage of the circumstance.
As stated by the Ministry of Education in February, secondary school tuition costs were initially set at Ksh 53,554 for National Schools and Ksh 40,535 for other categories.
The Ministry also instructed educational personnel to swiftly report any instances of schools engaging in unlicensed fee collection to CS Machogu.
Parents may prepare for their children’s education without worrying about unforeseen surprises because to the government’s steadfast dedication to upholding agreed-upon tuition prices.
