Education PS Begs Senators To Get Involved In The Pay For ECDE Teachers
Senators have been urged to intervene and halt the proposed decrease in pay for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) instructors by Principal Secretary for Education Dr. Belio Kipsand.
Kipsang asked senators to stand up for the ECDE teachers against the proposed cut in their pay during a meeting he had with the Committee on Education.
According to him, teachers are crucial in laying the groundwork for education and should be compensated appropriately.
According to PS Kipsang, ECDE teachers are primarily responsible for preparing and forming students for their educational journey.
By making sure that the interests of ECDE instructors are taken into account, he pleaded with the nation to invest in high-quality entry-level education.
He emphasized once more how crucial it is for the national and county governments to collaborate in order to harmonize the pay scale for ECDE instructors across the nation’s counties.
He thinks that by doing this, salaries for ECDE teachers will be comparable since some are employed on a permanent basis with pension benefits while others are hired under a contract.
According to a PS study on basic education, primary school costs are reduced by 15% by hiring high-quality ECDE teachers.
In several counties, the minimum pay for ECDE teachers was reduced from Kes. 20,000 to Kes. 7,836 as part of a plan by the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
The Commission, however, rejected these arguments, stating that the modification would be unlawful because the minimum salary is Kes. 12,000 instead.
PS Kipsang urged the government to support high-quality education by paying teachers adequately.
