Free Laptop for Female Teachers from Union
The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) has profited significantly from a partnership that will give laptops to its members in an effort to reduce the digital divide.
The House of Procurement (HOP), the financier, and Equity Bank have strategically collaborated to make this possible.
On August 4 and 5, 2022, at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, during the KEWOTA-organized 5th Annual Delegates Conference, the agreement was made public.
The campaign, led by the CEOs of KEWOTA and HOP, Benard Odote and Benta Opande, intends to address the challenges that female instructors face while embracing digital technology, particularly those who juggle being mothers and teachers.
“KewOTA and HOP have joined forces in recognition of the transformative potential of technology in education to provide female teachers with the tools they need to successfully navigate the digital landscape,” stated Opande.

Officials from KEWOTA, who were happy about the collaboration, highlighted that providing the instructors with laptops has a significant positive impact on their professional lives.
The computers are loaded with all of the more than 150 KICD-approved books.
In support of President Ruto’s objective, she stressed the importance of giving female educators the resources they need to thrive in a classroom that is rapidly going digital.
In order to ensure the sustainability of the Initiative, Opande also revealed that KEWOTA has been working closely with financial institutions like Equity Bank to offer funding options for its members.
The Estonian government’s Kadri Humal Ayal, who attended the ceremony, underlined her country’s desire to continue funding Kenyan instructors online.

Benard Odote, the CEO of House of Procurement (HOP), stressed the strategic basis for choosing KEWOTA as a partner.
“We selected KEWOTA because of their sizable female network and commitment to enhancing the status of female teachers in Kenya.
Many female teachers have unique challenges when utilising digital tools, especially in light of their maternal commitments.
Our partnership looks for the best laptops at affordable costs while also making sure that no one gains unfairly. She uttered.
The collaboration between KEWOTA and HOP was praised as an important step in promoting digital literacy among educators and the empowerment of female instructors.
The alliance “shows their commitment to combining strengths for the benefit of society as well as the dedication of both organisations to their respective missions,” added Opande.
Teachers must embrace it, according to Opande, because their employer, the Teachers Service Commission, is technologically savvy.
She asserted that teachers can now earn a large income because of various digital platforms.
Female genital mutilation, according to Opande, is still a serious problem for young girls in several parts of the country.
She notably highlighted Kuria and Laikipia, two locations the official said they intended to visit.
Opande underlined that KEWOTA is not a union but rather an association of teachers.
