JSS accounts to receive the largest capitation funds ever in January.

January will see the largest capitation to impact junior secondary school (JSS) coffers since the school’s founding two years ago.

This is because Grade 8 students will be moving to Grade 9 in January, so JSS will now have three classrooms (Grades 7, 8, and 9).

The statute states that term one will receive half of the total distribution for the year, followed by term two at thirty percent and term three at twenty percent.

The Ministry wires money to JSS’s three accounts. These are the accounts for operations, tuition, and infrastructure.

Prior to the start of the 2025 school year, the government has already set out Sh. 109.9 billion to improve basic education.

Included in this budget are initiatives for free primary education (sh. 9.36 billion), free day secondary education (sh. 65.2 billion), and free junior secondary education (sh. 35.3 billion).

During a meeting in the Nakuru Town West Sub-County, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stated that a successful school reopening depends on the prompt distribution of these funds.

He added that the administration has started looking into boarding schools’ safety requirements.

Beginning in January 2025, 348 schools that do not adhere to safety regulations will be barred from operating boarding sections as part of this approach.

The administration reiterated its dedication to fulfilling the Education 2030 program, which places a high priority on hiring certified teachers and giving schools greater resources.

In order to strengthen the educational system, efforts are being made to enhance the working conditions for teachers, provide the resources they need, and encourage professional development.

In the past, delayed capitation monies have put financial strain on schools, causing some to turn to loans in order to continue operating.

Due to irregularities and payment delays, suppliers have regularly refused to deliver items. Numerous institutions have suffered as a result of these difficulties.

There are still other problems facing the education industry, such as the continuing strike by lecturers that is harming public universities.

In the meantime, personnel dissatisfaction and internal management disputes are plaguing some schools, like Moi University.
