JSS Resident in Primary As Team Reduce Number of Subjects

JSS Resident in Primary As Team Reduce Number of Subjects

According to the proposals of the Presidential Working Team on Education Reforms, the Ministry of Education should establish a comprehensive educational system that includes Pre-Primary through Grade 9 levels and combines Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) inside current primary schools.

The Comprehensive School System (PP1-Grade 9), which is managed as one institution, includes Pre-Primary, Primary, and Junior Schools. based on the report that was presented to President Ruto on Tuesday.

In the present Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools, the term “Secondary” is also discouraged by the reform. These institutions will instead be referred to as Pre-Primary Education, Primary Education, Junior School, and Senior School.

The committee headed by Prof. Munavu advocated a 2-6-3-3-3 educational framework with two years of pre-primary school, six years of primary school, three years of junior high school, three years of high school, and at least three years of university.

As part of the reforms, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been tasked with creating criteria for career development for educators in comprehensive schools.

To make sure instructors meet the required standards, the regulations will encompass hiring, retaining, developing, training, and promoting teachers.

The recommendations increase the possibility for teachers hired by the Commission to develop in their careers by defining the knowledge and skills necessary for advancement.

TSC stressed the importance of potential employees and currently employed instructors having a complete awareness of the qualifications in order to join the service and grow in their careers.

TSC was required by the reform to develop guidelines for new ways to deliver basic education and training.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will be given more responsibility under the proposed system for evaluating student success and providing feedback to relevant stakeholders.
