Junior Secondary Education Implementation Guidelines, January 2023
The rules for putting the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) Curriculum into practice are now accessible. Current primary school administrators will be able to apply the JSS curriculum thanks to the recommendations.
The following issues are among those covered by the guidelines:
Governmental financial management and allocation.
- JSS’s leadership structure.
- Shared use and infrastructure management.
- Fundamental Education Act.
- JSS Subject Areas of Learning
- Students’ welfare in JSS, including a new, distinctive uniform
- JSS staffing and teaching workload
The Grade 7 curriculum developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development calls for 45 sessions each week, with each class lasting 40 minutes.
Grades 7, 8, and 9 make up junior secondary. The junior secondary curriculum’s required and elective subjects are listed below.

2. Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language for learners who are deaf

4. Integrated Science
5. Health Education
6. Pre-Technical and Pre-Career Education
7. Social Studies
8. Religious Education – learners choose one of the following:

- Hindu Religious Education

11. Life Skills Education
12. Sports and Physical Education
