KMTC candidates must reapply the September 2023 intake

KMTC candidates must reapply the September 2023 intake

The National Assembly’s decision to invalidate the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) placement procedure may cause students expecting to join in the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in 2023 to have to wait longer.

The placement procedure, according to the parliamentary health committee, was “marred with illegalities.” The procedure was found to be invalid by the committee under Robert Pukose’s direction.

Due to the errors, the nearly 42,000 applicants who applied to KMTC universities will now need to reapply.

According to Pukose, it is clear that the process is illegitimate because a court ruling unambiguously specifies that the KMTC board should manage student placement and that KUCCPS managing the placement is illegal.

The committee also agreed that KUCCPS should give KMTC the Ksh. 8.4 million that the applicants had previously paid.

“It should be clear that the student who had paid the application fee should not repay when reapplying, but on how the selection will be done, we will leave it to the board,” said Pukose.

The health cabinet secretary, Susan Nakhumicha, testified before the committee in favour of the choice to let KUCCPS handle placements even though the KMTC board is legally responsible for doing so.

Were you not aware that you were breaking the law when KUCCPS and KMTC were ordered by a judge not to be associated? Did you seek counsel from the AG? Julius Sunkuli, a Kilgoris MP, posed.

He went on to say, “KUCCPS is a stranger in this setting; we should fire them and let the board take over.”

The CS stated that she was acting in compliance with an executive order when she chose to delegate the placement process to KUCCPS.

42,000 students registered for a chance to join KMTC universities, however only 11,975 (or 28%) of the applicants were placed, leaving roughly 30,000 kids out.
