Knec Will Position Exam Containers Near Schools

Kenya National exams Council (KNEC) has proposed enhanced security measures to deter cheating during this year’s national exams.

Exam officials would no longer collect all of the examination papers for the day in the morning.Instead, center supervisors who are also teachers will select solely the morning papers.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) intends to purchase more containers to provide storage space for school-based tests.

According to insiders, the new technique will reduce the time required to pick up and deliver exam materials.

These are only a few of the new measures that will go into effect three months before the national exams.

Candidates will be returned to the container where they will pick up the afternoon papers once they have completed the morning paper.

According to Ministry of Education insiders, the strategy is intended to restrict early exposure to afternoon papers.

“They will no longer have as much time with afternoon question papers because they will be kept in the container and only picked up minutes before the exam,” a ministry official said.

The current practice of asking examination authorities to collect question papers from containers within their sub-counties should be examined as well.

Officials from schools or testing facilities will be directed to the nearest container to get question papers.

This is due to the discovery that some schools located near certain containers were unable to pick up examinations from such storage facilities since they did not fall inside the sub-county.

Over 1.4 million children will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), according to Knec figures provided at the end of test registration. The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be taken by another 1.2 million sixth-grade students.

Furthermore, 903,260 pupils will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam this year.

According to the Knec 2023 examination schedule, KCPE and KPSEA exam candidates will rehearse on Friday, October 27.

The three-day tests will begin on Monday, October 30 and will run concurrently.

To prepare for the KCSE exam, which will be held from November 2 to November 24, they will end on Wednesday, November 1.

Exam malpractice is causing sleepless nights for government agencies, with one accusing the other.

According to Ministry of Education officials, the police are the weakest link in exam administration.

The Director of Criminal Investigation has also been accused of conducting ineffective investigations that do not lend itself to prosecution.

The ODPP and the courts blame the investigators for failing to produce enough evidence to warrant prosecution.

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) also charges the Judiciary of protecting criminals who set up and run sites that promote cheating.

CA has also been blasted for taking an inordinate amount of time to remove websites selling fraudulent exam papers.

Despite the finger-pointing, preparations for the exams are in high gear three months out.

Officials from the exam went to the printer to double-check the preparatory processes.
