KNUT Begs Government To Speed Up JSS Teachers’ Posting
For the sake of students in Grade 7, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged the Ministry of Education to speed up the process of appointing Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
Since JSS started reporting to schools at the end of January, according to KNUT’s Eldoret East Branch Executive Sammy Bor, they haven’t been learning because the teachers haven’t yet been posted.
“As a union, we are troubled by the way the government is handling junior secondary schools. The KNUT boss stated, “Despite kids enrolling in junior secondary schools, there is a significant teacher shortage making it difficult for learning to begin.
According to Bor, the staffing issue needs to be urgently addressed for the sake of Grade 7 learners.
Many schools are quite confusing; students attend class but receive no instruction. Since little is happening, the ministry should move quickly to remedy the issue.
“The government only sends one instructor each school, despite the fact that a school like Hill School has more than five streams. With such a population, what do you think they will do? More teachers must be hired in order for this program to be effective, he continued.
He also mentioned that purchasing infrastructure and educational resources was another problem that needed to be resolved.
“Most schools have not yet gotten the textbooks that the government promised, and capitation should be resolved more quickly for the benefit of learning. Since the majority of students are not being educated, there is a lot of uncertainty, according to Bor.
