KNUT Demands Promotion Of Teachers In Job Groups C1 And C2

According to the country’s constitution, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is in charge of several facets of teacher administration in both primary and secondary schools. This involves registering them, employing them, promoting them, moving them around, and applying disciplinary measures.

The TSC should stimulate instructors who have remained in the same job groups for a long time by promoting them in accordance with its mandate. However, there have been cases where promotions did not take place as anticipated, resulting in instructors spending a lot of time in lower job groups.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has requested that the TSC take this scenario into consideration when promoting teachers in job groups C1 and C2. Leaders of Knut have expressed worry about instructors in these job groups being trapped for a long time and how automatic promotions from these levels can help them advance more quickly in their careers and feel more motivated.

Additionally, Knut brought up the problem of instructors who have obtained degrees and diplomas to develop their skills but have not experienced an increase in their remuneration. Through its campaigning, the union hopes to allay this worry and guarantee that teachers’ efforts to improve their credentials are rewarded with appropriate advancements.

It remains to be seen if the TSC will heed these requests and act. Important problems about career advancement and credential recognition in Kenya’s teaching profession are raised by the current circumstance.
