KUPPET Condemns KNUT of Betraying Teachers in the Wake of a TSC Salary Increase Proposal
The TSC Salary Increase Proposal Has KUPPET Condemning KNUT of Betraying Teachers. Akello Misori, the secretary general of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), has attacked the TSC for approving the plan, claiming that because it is unclear, it will betray the teaching community.
At a meeting to discuss teacher salary reviews on August 22, KUPPET requested a 30 percent pay raise for all teachers.
The veracity of the pay increase information has been contested by Missouri.
He discovered that the proposals from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) were substantially dissimilar.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s (SRC) proposed compensation increase was vigorously opposed on Tuesday by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and KUPPET employees.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) collective agreement’s specific provisions, which provide for a 2.4% pay raise for the lowest paid teachers, are the basis for the issue.
The best paid teachers would receive a 9.5% raise from TSC, which would be due two years before the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is ratified.
The TSC plan calls for wage hikes for teachers ranging from Ksh1,076 to Ksh3,000.
He even suggested a salary rise of 7–10% while working under the direction of SRC Chairman Lin Mengich. KUPpet, however, turned down this offer because it was too low for its members.
It is claimed that the 30% increase will make up for the rise in teachers’ living costs. Additionally, according to KUPPET, other government employees including doctors and nurses are receiving higher salary from the government.
Misori cited the discrepancy in communication as an example of her frustration. Even yet, he claimed that the president had spoken about many ideas. He claimed that it was challenging to bargain with those who appeared to be straightforward and indifferent in their communication.
Secretary General of KUPETT Akello Misori stated, “I have given Monday, August 28 to prepare outstanding proposals that can be discussed.”
