Kuppet grants TSC and SRC until July’s end to evaluate pay.
To examine salaries, Kuppet provides TSC and SRC till the end of July.
According to the collective bargaining agreement for 2021–2025, the Kenya National Union of Teachers proposed a wage rise for teachers of 60%.
The last time the teachers’ compensation was evaluated, according to the union’s secretary general Collins Oyuu, was in 2016–17.
SRC and TSC have been urged by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers to abide by the teachers’ compensation increases by the end of July.
Teachers are overtaxed, according to Kuppet Secretary General Akelo Misori, which has led to a high cost of living.
Despite the government’s pledge to raise salaries, this has occurred.
According to Misori, “Kuppet demands immediate action by SRC and TSC to complete the teacher salary increment that has already been agreed upon between the union and the President.”
While teachers bear the cost of higher taxes and high inflation, regrettably and in spite of guarantees, TSC and SRC are continuing in circles.
At a news conference conducted on Tuesday at the Kuppet offices in Nairobi, Misori spoke.
He said that during a meeting with the union’s National Governing Council in May, President William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s intention to grant teachers a pay increase of at least 10% upon adoption of the Finance Bill.
When the President indicated that the Collective Bargaining Agreement was being reviewed, Misori responded, “We thought that Treasury and TSC were aware. We have had numerous correspondences with TSC about this.”
There is no longer a delay, according to him, and the TSC must call a meeting with Kuppet to discuss the raise and have it included in teachers’ salary this month.

The last time the teachers’ compensation was evaluated, according to the union’s secretary general Collins Oyuu, was in 2016–17.
Since the raise they received was so small, Oyuu explained, “the teachers received the most recent salary increment in two phases—2016/2017 and 2017/2018.”
He demanded that the collective bargaining agreement for 2021–25, which was signed with non-financial perks, be reviewed.
