KUPPET Requests a Boycott of the KCSE Exam this Year

KUPPET Requests a Boycott of the KCSE Exam this Year. The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has stated that they would not be marking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education this year.

This is due to the Kenya National Examination Council’s (KNEC) continued failure to settle all outstanding bills with hundreds of examiners around the country.

At the Uasin Gishu branch’s annual general meeting, Moses Nthurima, the deputy secretary general of KUPPET, announced that they would not take part in the exercise until all of their dues had been paid.

The members of our organization have decided, as I speak, that they won’t participate in marking the KCSE exams this year until the government pays our dues.

Despite the low wages that our members earn, we will continue to work for the welfare of the marks, Nthurima continued.

The man said, “We have instructed our members to delay showing up at the locations for the gazetted exams until they have received union approval.”

Nthurima sought an emergency meeting with their employer, the Teachers Service Commission, and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to discuss and consider important matters relevant to the welfare of the teaching fraternity in the country.

It would be wise for the TSC and SRC to schedule an urgent meeting with the union in order to avoid any delays in the approaching grading of the 2023 national examination papers.

They also want secondary school teachers to get a consistent wage.

When the employer implements a wage increase for individuals who work for the teacher service commission, why does it treat instructors differently from other employees?

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) examiners haven’t received a dime since December 2022, when they marked the exam. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has not yet delivered on empty promises.

He issued a warning, saying, “We won’t let this happen.”
