List of TVET Institutions Advancing to National Polytechnics

List of TVET Institutions Advancing to National Polytechnics

In an effort to increase access to higher education, thirteen Technical and Vocational Colleges have been given the status of National Polytechnics. This choice was made during the Tuesday Cabinet meeting, which was presided over by President William Ruto and held in the Kakamega State Lodge.

The action is consistent with the tenets stated in Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2005: According to a formal statement issued after the meeting, A Framework for Education, Training, and Research defines a progression path for graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Several educational institutions, including the Maasai Technical Training Institute, Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology, Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology, Coast Institute of Technology, Tseikuru Technical and Training College, and Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology, have been granted National Polytechnic status as a first step towards achieving this national goal. Bureti Technical Vocational College, Jeremiah Nyagah Technical Training Institute, Mawego Technical Training Institute, and Baringo Technical Training Institute are a few more establishments that have been elevated.

This Cabinet action is in accordance with the recommendations included in Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2005, titled “A Framework for Education, Training, and Research.” This framework lays the groundwork for accelerating TVET graduates’ advancement and safeguarding their mobility within the education sector.

The statement further emphasises the requirement of this policy for the construction of a specific TVET institution and at least one National Polytechnic in each constituency.

President William Ruto has set aside Sh100 million for the Ebunangwe Technical Training Institute’s ongoing construction. The President emphasised that this institute will be one of three nationwide in charge of teaching TTI (Technical teaching Institute) tutors during a visit to Ebunangwe in Emuhaya Sub-county.

In order to ensure the institution’s operational fitness, President Ruto promised to complete it as soon as possible. He stated that only three TTIs nationwide would be in charge of preparing teachers for other TTIs across the country. He commended the efforts made by the local representative to make sure the institute serves all Kenyans.
