MOE DISCLAIMS THE JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND PLACEMENT PROCESS FOR 2024.

JSS 2024 selection standards.Parents’ reactions to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which was implemented in 2017 as an alternative to the 8-4-4 system, have been varied. One of the main issues is the selection and placement of secondary school students.

It’s crucial to comprehend the methods involved in middle school placement and selection in order to make informed decisions.

Critical information on the subject is provided in this article.

Following the completion of the national test, middle school—also known as Junior Secondary School (JSS)—serves as the transitional stage between primary and secondary education.

There are both required and elective studies included in the Core Skills Curriculum (CBC).

These are the primary topics covered at this level:

English,

Swahili,

math,

generally speaking,

exercise instruction,

technological antecedents

preparing for a career

the social sciences

education in religion,

business analysis,

Agriculture,

life lessons, and

Physical education and sports.

High schools also provide specialty tracks, such as visual arts,

arts performance,

kinship science

the information age,

foreign languages (such as Arabic, Mandarin/Chinese, German, or French),

Native languages and Kenyan Sign Language.

Typically, students select no more than two elective subjects.

At the intermediate level, Kenyan secondary education consists of years 7, 8, and 9.

Kenya will make its first entry into middle school in January 2023.

The school administration will present a list of middle school CBC alternatives for students to choose from during this phase.

2024 JSS Selection Criteria
For a selection process to be effective, it is essential for parents and guardians to actively participate with school administration, with school administrators playing a critical role in assisting students during the selection process.

Middle school alternatives must be uploaded by principals, and a list of these options can be found on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) portal.

The placement of pupils is expected from all accredited public and private JSSs, however parents who choose private secondary schools should be informed that they are responsible for paying tuition.

2024 JSS Selection Criteria
The Ministry of Education has created precise standards for the selection and grading of pupils from middle school to sixth grade.

The Certificate of Merit (performance on the Kenya Primary Education Assessment, or KPSEA), fairness, learner and parent choices for schools, and the capability of the selected institution are some of the criteria used in this procedure.

According to the “100% transfer” policy, every student will be assigned to a middle school.
