NSSF Deduction in Teachers’ Payslips as Described by KNUT
The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) withdrawals and their potential impact on teachers’ compensation have Collins Oyuu, the KNUT secretary-general, concerned.
Oyuu emphasized that the NSSF discussion in Parliament has been ongoing since 2003, with energy being a persistent issue.
Despite efforts to avoid their adoption, NSSF subscriptions are now required, with both employees and employers paying 360 Shillings.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) leader questioned the administration’s knowledge of the financial burden this would have on teachers’ pay stubs.
Oyuu brought up the President’s unmet pledge of a seven to ten percent pay increase, which only made things worse.
The NSSF deductions resulted in a drop in pay rather than the anticipated increase in income.
Oyuu also emphasized the lack of financial remuneration in previous agreements between teachers and the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
He urged that these contracts be renegotiated in order to better serve the requirements and welfare of teachers.
Oyuu urged that, given the circumstances, the seven to ten percent raise be distributed more fairly.
He suggested that people in administrative positions earn a bigger share, while those making less should also be eligible for the 10% increase.
According to KNUT, as a union, it is committed to advancing better terms and circumstances of work for teachers across the Republic, ensuring their financial stability and providing them with equitable compensation for their dedication to education.
