On this Date, School Capitation Will Affect School Accounts

The Ministry of Education has announced a large financial injection of Sh16 billion, set to be distributed next week, providing much-needed respite for school administrators. This significant development follows the growing worries voiced by headteachers and principals just one day earlier as they struggled with the impending budgetary impasse that presented a serious danger to their exam preparations.

The respected Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang, has offered comprehensive insights into the distribution of these money. A sizeable sum of Sh1.75 billion would go to junior schools, while Sh1.56 billion will go to primary schools.

A sizeable Sh16.24 billion of the funds will be used to support secondary schools, primarily through the Free Day Secondary Education initiative.

Kipsang stressed in a comforting statement that “To ensure the seamless functioning of all school activities, the Ministry of Education has successfully secured Sh16,249,982,722.28 billion in capitation funds from The National Treasury, which will be meticulously distributed to learners in public Primary, Junior, and Secondary Schools.”

Government Releases Sh.16 Billion for School Capitation

Additionally, the Principal Secretary has promised that throughout the upcoming week, these money will be immediately paid to school accounts, ensuring an unbroken flow of educational activities.

Additionally, the government has put a ban on all on-site events during the third term in an effort to protect the health and safety of students. This term, which began on August 28, 2023, is planned to last through October 27, and it will be a vital time for students to prepare for the KCPE and KPSEA national exams, which will begin on October 30.

According to The Standard, the issues mentioned by school administrators had grown into a financial crisis that affected school operations and raised questions about students’ readiness for the KCPE and KCSE exams.

Omboko Milemba, the Chairman of Kuppet, has taken initiative by contacting Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, and requesting that Parliament act quickly to intercede in order to hasten the distribution of these crucial monies.
