One Teacher From Each School Will Be Trained in the OCS
The instructors Service Commission (TSC) has sent out a circular to schools outlining the requirements for training OCS instructors who will be delivering career counselling across the country.
Through a memo, the TSC’s central office requested that all County Directors of Education assist school principals in setting up the new Office of Career Services (OCS) within their institutions after the training.
In addition, the TSC has mandated that each school schedule the training and assign a teacher to oversee the Office of Career Services. Additionally, the commission has ordered teacher OCS applicants to show up at mandatory TSC training sessions held in their respective counties.
The State Department for Labour and Skills Development has been given the ability to supervise skill development across several industries, according to a section of the TSC document about OCS training.
In accordance with Executive Order No. 1 of 2021, it is also in charge of developing and overseeing the institutional framework for coordinating industrial skill development and training.

To decrease skill gaps, improve school-to-work transitions, ensure employability, and promote labour mobility, the Department is committed to encouraging career counselling. It strives to reintegrate vulnerable and marginalised people into the nation’s educational and employment systems.
In order to address this, the Department created the National Policy Framework and set the Offices of Career Services.
The Office of Career Services (OCS) has been established in many universities, the majority of national polytechnics, and technical vocational schools, and it is currently expanding to primary and secondary levels. The following obligations are outlined in a message to county education officers:
- Ensure that an Office of Career Service is established at every institution under their control, and that an educator is chosen to oversee OCS activities.
- Promote proper Community Service Learning (CSL) instruction in accordance with the authorised curriculum.
- Ensure that the memo is distributed to all administrators at the institutions. By the close of business on September 10, 2023, the County Director’s office must receive any comments.
