Parents are advised to teach their kids ‘Kiswahili’ as their first language.
Kiswahili is being used as the main language at home by teachers to encourage parents to help their children become fluent in the language. Kiswahili teacher Evans Okisai of Kajiado County’s Ongata Royal Academy underlined that parents should take the initiative in fostering the use of Kiswahili. This strategy can encourage kids to speak Kiswahili and increase their familiarity with it.
Okisai also emphasized the difficulty of teaching Kiswahili in schools because many students are more accustomed to speaking English. Children frequently combine English vocabulary with Kiswahili, which can make it challenging to create well-structured Swahili sentences.
The government and related authorities are being urged by teachers to give Kiswahili the attention it merits. They advocate educating the general population on the value of speaking Kiswahili more regularly in interpersonal and official contexts.
Alejandra Guerra, Chile’s ambassador, underlined the value of exposing kids to various cultures. She gave out Kiswahili books to nearby primary schools, such as “Mashairi ya Watoto,” which includes tales and poetry meant to improve children’ comprehension and love of the language.

Guerra emphasized that aiding vulnerable African schools was a top priority for their mission and pledged her assistance.
Victor Mutuma, a fundraiser at the Orione Community Training Center in Rongai, also urged people to donate to the cause. The center supports kids with special needs, such as autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. The institution’s head teacher and speech therapist, Regina Mbugua, recommended parents to seek specialized education and treatment for their children with these disorders rather than keeping them hidden at home.
