Primary School Teachers’ New Salary Scales by Job Group
Kenyan primary school teachers work with students in grades one through six, who are typically 6 to 11 years old. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) processes the teachers’ salaries in accordance with their different work groupings.
Positive results from TSC’s new grading system include higher graduate teacher compensation.Teachers used to fall within the employment groups G, J, K, L, M, N, and P. The new system, though, calls for regrouping.
New Payscale for Teachers in Primary Schools
- Head teachers of elementary schools in both day and boarding schools across the country are included in job group P – Grade D1. They now earn between Ksh 77,840 and Ksh 93,408 every month.
- Job group N – Grade C5: Primary headteachers and deputy headteachers from schools with fewer students were transferred to grade C5. Between Ksh 62,272 to Ksh 77,840 will be their annual salary.
- Deputy headteachers in day schools were elevated to grade C4 under job group M. Their pay will now range from Ksh. 52,308 to Ksh. 65,385.
- Job group L – Grade C3: Senior teacher I teachers in job group L will now make between Ksh. 43,154 and Ksh. 55,945 per month.
- Job group K – Grade C2: Senior elementary teachers who were promoted to this grade and who focus mostly on special needs education will now be paid on a new scale ranging from Ksh. 34,955 to Ksh. 43,694.
6.Job group J – Grade C1: Teachers in this job group will receive between Ksh 27,195 and Ksh 33,994 per month, which is a rise in compensation.
- Job group G, which was once reserved for P1 beginning instructors, has been replaced. This group of instructors received an automatic grade B5 raise. Their new pay scale, which now acts as the compensation for P1 teachers in Kenya, ranges from Ksh 21,756 to Ksh 27,195.
