Principals Are Warned By CS Machogu As Schools Reopen
The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has issued a warning to the administrators of secondary schools to refrain from increasing the cost of tuition when classes begin for the third term. During a lecture that he gave on the 30th of August at Kakamega High School, Machogu emphasized that any administrator who was caught asking additional tuition from parents would be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.
He reassured parents that the government would not permit school administrators to raise tuition, and he said that parents should expect to pay the price determined by the government, which is Ksh 53,000 per year for national schools.
According to Machogu, no principal or board of school administration is permitted to raise tuition by even one cent above the amount that has been allotted since “we recognize that parents are also going through a lot of financial challenges.”
If it is determined that a principal has been asking for additional funds from the parents, that principal will be subject to the relevant punishments.
According to a notification made in February by the Ministry of Education, the tuition for secondary school was initially fixed at Ksh 53,554 for National Schools and Ksh 40,535 for other categories.
In addition, the Ministry of Education issued a directive that instructed field education officers to identify schools that are collecting unlawful fees and to submit those schools to CS Machogu.
