Next an agreement between the National Treasury and the Ministry of Education to disperse capitation monies by the next week, junior and senior secondary school principals can rejoice.

Public school administrators around the nation were informed by Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Basic Education, that the money are now available and will be promptly paid into their individual bank accounts.

The PS spoke during the launch of the Sh60 million Uasin Gishu ECDE milk program, which would benefit 40,000 pupils in the area, on the playground of Central Primary School in Eldoret town.

Jonathan Bii, the governor of Uasin Gishu, invited John Lonyangapuo, the chair of the North Rift Waterworks development organization, to the ceremony.

In response to principals’ complaints that the government was holding up the release of capitation payments, Kipsang said that the action threatened to shut down the institutions.

Due to some parents’ failure to pay school fees, the principals stated that they had not received the free day secondary education capitation funds for the second semester.

Indimuli Kahi, chairperson of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association, said that principals discovered that schools were reliant on suppliers and were in debt.

Schools will be grounded if suppliers grow impatient with waiting for payment and refuse to furnish, according to Kahi.

The second term, which Kahi claims is the longest in the academic year, began this week with the start of classes.

In order to get ready for the KCSE exams at the end of the year, Form Four students take practice exams throughout the term.

Kipsang asserted that 18 million books were distributed to grade 7 students by the Ministry of Education to ensure that instruction ran smoothly in all public schools across the nation.

For his part, Governor Jonathan Bii said that his administration has put policies in place to ensure the milk program’s viability.

“My government has put adequate measures in place to ensure that this milk feeding program for ECDE students is sustainable across the country,” Bii said.

He said that in order to enhance enrollment and keep pupils at ECDE, milk will be provided to the students twice a week.
