Requirements for University Student Funding
For Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students who want to apply for government support under the new paradigm, The University Fund has established a list of requirements.
The fund’s administration introduced the revised standards, saying that the paradigm at play was a student-centered strategy for enhancing all students’ access to higher education.
The University Fund offers a range of financial help alternatives for students, including bursaries, loans, and scholarships.
While loans are only offered to people who meet tight financial requirements, scholarships are granted to students who excel academically but need financial support.
Academic standing, financial need, and the academic programme a student is enrolled in all play a role in determining how much financial aid they will receive from the institution.
The University Fund is a government organisation tasked with helping students enrol in Kenya’s public institutions of higher learning. It was established under Section 53 of the Institutions Act of 2012.
Essential Documents
- A legitimate email address that will be used to create an account and upload and submit documents.
- A working phone number registered in the student’s name at the time the loan application is submitted.
- The year of the exam as well as the KCPE and KCSE index numbers.
- A photo the size of a passport that will be posted to the account.
- A copy of your national ID, required for loan applications.
- A letter of acceptance to a college or university.
- The registered phone number for the parents.
- The national ID number of your parents.
- Death certificate in the event that one of your parents passed away.
- The IDs and registered phone numbers of the two guarantors (for the loan application).
- A duplicate of your sponsorship letter from secondary school, if applicable.
- Your birth record
The strategy is based on four factors: the preferred programme, the income range of households, affirmative performance, and government target areas.
The classification of students will now be as “vulnerable,” “extremely needy,” “needy,” or “less needy” according to the new approach.
Under the vulnerable category, students who are living in extreme poverty and have no other means of support will be eligible for full government scholarships.
Students from low-income families who struggle to pay for their tuition at colleges and universities around the nation are seen as being in urgent need.
To be eligible for financial aid, a student must come from a middle-class family because the primary earner needs to make more money to cover all of the children’s educational costs.
