Schools will be closed for a 10-week third-term break.
According to the Ministry of Education, Term 3 of the school year is often shorter than Term 1 and Term 2, which causes schools to close early.
As an illustration, Term 1 in 2023 ran for 13 weeks, and Term 2 spanned a length of 14 straight weeks. In contrast, Term 3 in 2023 will only have 9 weeks of in-class instruction and the remaining time will be used for national exams.
The third term of 2023 started on August 28 and is scheduled to end on October 27. There will be no half-term break for students or instructors in any of the schools this term.
The December break will begin for students who are not taking National Exams on October 28, 2023, and last until January 8, 2024.
In relation to the 2023 official national examinations period:
- The Knec exams will be administered to Grade Six students (KPSEA) and KCPE candidates from October 30, 2023, to November 2, 2023.
- The KCSE exams for 2023 will start on November 3 and end on November 24, 2023.
- On or before December 15, 2023, all of the national exam grading is anticipated to be finished.
