The commission has indicated that at least 20,000 teachers will be hired in order to alleviate the teacher/learner shortfall in the county’s public junior secondary schools.
The government has set aside Sh4.8 billion under the recently read budget by the Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u, according to the Teachers Service Commission, money for the hiring of more intern teachers.
On the other hand, the commission has disclosed that an additional Sh1.1 billion will be used to develop teachers across all cadres.
Ndung’u allotted Sh1.3 billion while reading the budget, which will be used to retrain teachers in the nation’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
To continue tackling the issues and ensure equal chance for all children, regardless of their circumstances, the government has made the decision to spend extensively in will education.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia assured the unemployed teachers that, if funds are available, the commission will hire at least 25,000 teachers year for the next five years.
The newly employed intern teachers are paid Sh15,000 per month in primary schools, while others are paid Ksh20,000 in senior institutions.
The panel that testified before the legislative senate stated that 116,000 instructors were required overall in 2017.
For both primary and secondary schools, the government did, however, hire more than 35,000 new teachers this year.
Since the introduction of free primary education and day secondary schooling, the number of students attending schools has increased.
The government has recently been pushed to hire additional teachers and promote those who have remained in the same job group but have not advanced by Kuppet and Knut, the two teachers unions.
