Teachers And Civil Servants Will Receive Their Actual Salaries After The Increment

The wages and renumeration commission estimates that there won’t be much of a difference between the actual salary that civil employees, state officials, teachers, and county government officers earn, and their existing pay.

Low earners will receive a modest margin in compared to wealthy salaries. For instance, the basic wage of a government worker earning KSH 24000 per month will increase by KSH 1200 for the current fiscal year. While a government employee’s base pay of KSH 54000 will increase by KSH 2700.

In addition, because these deductions are based on gross or basic pay, the increase will result in increased tax and other deductions. This results in increases in PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, and Provident Funds.

Depending on the job group, different employees receive different benefits. Individuals in lower job groups will be paid less than those in higher employment groups. In an interview with Citizen TV, the chair of the wages and remuneration commission says that only people who come under cluster 4 would have their housing allowance increased.

The commission intends to get rid of cluster 4 by harmonizing house allowance by the next year. In other words, only the first, second, and third clusters will exist.

Cluster 1 employees are those in Nairobi, whereas Cluster 2 employees are those in Mombasa, Malindi, Nakuru, and Kisumu. Cluster 3 is made up of additional ex-municipalities, and Cluster 4 is made up of further regions. “Other areas” primarily refers to rural areas. According to the research of the salary and remuneration commission, Cluster 4 will be removed at the end of the following year. This may be good news for teachers and other government workers who currently serve in rural locations.

According to pay assessments, salaries for teachers and government workers will be paid in two faces. This year, the first face will be used; the second and last faces will be finished the following year. No other allowances will increase outside the housing allowance.
