Teachers Complain About Empty Pay Slips in the Face of Higher NSSF Deductions
During its first term, the Kenya Kwanza established a number of financial regulations that had an impact on civil officials’ pay stubs. The amount that government employees must contribute to the national social security fund is one of these laws. At first, every employee gave the fund a monthly contribution of sh. 200. President Ruto set the standard at sh. 1080 and based his decision on the necessity to conserve.
Following these, teachers have seen that their pay stubs are nearly empty. In actuality, the government retains one-third of teachers’ income as contributions to the National Social Security Fund, and they still have to walk home.
This is the reason the tutors denied the NSSF deduction, claiming that remissions violated a third labor law requirement. The majority of teachers who took out loans and now have nothing left after current deductions to cover their daily expenses while they provide their services may benefit from the decision.
