The New Junior Secondary School Teacher Pay Scale 2023–2024
A noteworthy breakthrough is the Teacher Service Commission’s (TSC) introduction of a creative compensation structure and career path for new teachers in elementary and middle schools.
This ground-breaking initiative aims to honor and reward the dedication of teachers in grades 7, 8, and 9 who are putting an engaging competency-centered curriculum into practice to influence the intellectual development of the next generation.
A group of specialists committed to promoting lower-secondary education has been assembled by the TSC in recognition of the crucial role educators play in shaping the minds of young people. Along with this choice, the panel presented a desirable pay system designed to recognize and encourage the efforts of these committed teachers.
Additionally, this project opens up career development prospects for primary school teachers who adhere to the prestigious Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
For these educators, the TSC offers a special opportunity to move into the fascinating world of junior high schools. In order to facilitate a seamless transition and maintain the pace of learning, they will mentor and assist students in grades 7, 8, and 9 here.
Notably, as described in the Status Report on Teacher Readiness for the Progressive Competence-Based Curriculum Implementation, P1 teachers will supervise junior high school pupils. The TSC’s commitment to offering a top-notch educational experience is demonstrated by the requirement that these teachers hold a bachelor’s degree in education or above.
There are several requirements that teachers must fulfill in order to start this thrilling journey. To participate in this prestigious undertaking, one must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Education (with a focus in Secondary education) and score at least a C+ on the KCSE exams.
The selected educators will begin at the prestigious C2 level and earn a monthly pay between Sh 34,955 and Sh 43,694. They will reach C3 level after three years of faithful service.
The basic monthly salary for teachers in the C3 grade ranges from sh 43,154 to sh 53,943. They also get to take use of a number of advantages, including a daily transportation allowance of Sh 5,000, a housing allowance of Sh 7,500 for people who live outside of large cities, an annual leave allowance of Sh 6,000, and a resilience payment of Sh 10,900 for teachers in high-risk locations. The benefits of the remuneration package add up to make it enticing and advantageous.
Finally, the TSC’s innovative pay scale and career path for junior secondary school teachers signal a paradigm shift in the field of education. This action aims to recruit and keep devoted teachers while also acknowledging the crucial role that educators play in forming children’s minds. This project lays forth the hope of a better future for both teachers and students by placing a focus on competency-based learning and equitable compensation.
