TSC Announces Teacher Redeployment to Junior Secondary Schools and How to Apply

According to the Teachers Service Commission, primary school teachers would be given preference for the openings needed to fill the teacher shortage during the operationalization of junior secondary schools.

TSC announced an opportunity for interested parties to submit proposals for deployment in the JSS in a statement issued on Saturday, January 28.

Candidates will use the link on the commission’s website to submit their applications;

https, double-forward slash, and tsconline(d)ot)tsc(dot)go(dot)ke(forward slash)tsc(dash)teacher(forward slash)login.

According to the announcement, the window will be open through February 6 in 2023. Additionally, the teachers’ employer made it clear that only those who are currently employed in public primary schools on permanent and pensionable terms of service (P&P) are urged to apply.

Candidates must have at least a C+ (Plus) mean grade on their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, or a score on an exam that is comparable, to be eligible.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent, or a grade of at least a C+ (Plus) in the two teaching disciplines, was also required, according to TSC.

Candidates for the new JSS must also be primary school teachers at the time of application and have completed at least 8 units in each of the two teaching specialties.

According to a directive from the Ministry of Education, junior secondary schools are anticipated to start operations on Monday, January 30.

The government started an upscaling personnel procedure through the well publicized 30,000 openings announced in December 2022 as part of its preparations for the historic changeover of grade six graduates.

Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary, stated that the execution of the transition was proceeding well following the acceptance of additional instructions surrounding the management of JSS when announcing the 2022 KCSE results.

The CS also disclosed government plans to commit additional resources to resolving issues that could have hampered the adoption of competency-based curriculum in public schools.
