The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) made the decision to change the grading system for teachers employed in elementary and secondary schools as soon as the Sh 54 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 2017–2021 between it and the three teachers unions was signed. This decision came into effect right away.

The Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) will be used by the Teaching Standards Commission (TSC) to evaluate instructors and promote them to higher grades.

The Commission claims that clear procedural guidelines (CPG) have been established to enable the Commission to implement CBAs.

TEACHERS GRADE B5 TO C1 ARE PROMOTED

There is only one grade, B5, and it is only used by primary school educators. The entry point for all primary school teachers is Grade B5, which is also known as Primary Teacher II and corresponds to the fifth level of the T-scale. Every new instructor who was just hired falls under this group.

A newly hired elementary school teacher will start their career in job group B5. A teacher who is now teaching at the Grade B5 level will be promptly promoted to the Grade C1 level after three years of service.

According to the CPG, there is no further coursework or interview necessary to promote instructors from the B5 level to the C1 level. One just needs to serve in B5 for three years before becoming qualified for the promotion in order to be automatically promoted to C1.

TEACHERS PROMOTED FROM GRADE C1 TO GRADE C2

Primary school teachers are automatically promoted to the C1 level after three years teaching at the grade B5 level.

The Grade C1 primary school instructors are classified as Primary Teacher I and are on the T-Scale 6 scale.

The automatic promotion of teachers in grade C1 to grade C2 is not guaranteed. In actuality, Senior Teacher I in the elementary school refers to Grade C2, which is a part of the Senior Teachers.

For primary school teachers vying for promotion, the grade C2 represents a higher level. In the administrative cadre, it is also regarded as an entry-level position. Whether there are openings or not will determine how difficult it is to get into this grade.

Whenever the TSC posts an advertisement in this respect, a primary school teacher who aspires to be promoted from Grade C1 to Grade C2 must submit an online application.

He or she is anticipated to have worked in the Grade C1 position for at least three years in addition to having the necessary qualifications, which include at the very least a diploma.

The Grade C1 level is the minimal needed to become a Diploma teacher at a secondary school. After being employed, diploma-holding secondary school teachers are automatically promoted to this grade.

Instructors with a secondary school qualification who are currently assigned to Grade C1 will automatically be promoted to Grade C2 after three years of employment.

TEACHERS PROMOTED FROM GRADE C2 TO GRADE C3

Senior Teacher II oversees the Grade C2 classroom at the elementary school. For elementary school teachers, this is a promotion grade.

An individual must have held the Primary Teacher I position on the T-Scale 6 for at least three years before being appointed to this grade.

A Senior Teacher II who is currently in grade C2 has the chance to be promoted to Senior Teacher I, who are currently in grade C3, after at least three years of service and participation in promotion interviews.

The TSC also hopes to persuade currently employed primary school teachers with degrees in the secondary option to work in junior secondary schools.

Teachers with diplomas are only eligible for the Grade C2 promotion grade in secondary schools. Diploma teachers in Grade C1 are automatically promoted to Grade C2 in the same topic after three years of employment.

A promotion interview is necessary for a high school diploma instructor who is currently teaching Grade C2 to go up to Grade C3. It doesn’t just happen by itself.

Graduate teachers in secondary schools are automatically upgraded to grade C3 after three years of service and without further testing.
