TSC proposes to review teachers’ compensation and benefits
The Julius Melly-led group was asked by Macharia to assist TSC in its evaluation of teachers’ wages and perks.
Due to the consequences of Covid-19 on the nation’s economy, the unions in the public sector decided to sign a cashless CBA in July 2021 against the SRC’s recommendation for non-monetary CBAs.
If an employer request is approved, primary and secondary school teachers will soon have their salary raised and their perks evaluated.
Nancy Macharia, CEO of TSC, stated that the economy had improved and called for higher compensation.
In order to encourage teachers, the commission would like to reconsider the 2021–2025 CBA’s compensation component, according to Macharia.
When TSC went before the National Assembly Education Committee on Tuesday, the CEO made a statement.
Macharia asked that TSC receive assistance from the Julius Melly-led committee during the evaluation process.
The CBA would be revised halfway through in light of the nation’s improved economic situation, she said.

A grade D5 teacher who currently earns Sh157, 656 will receive Sh252, 249 after a 60% pay increase under the demand for a salary increase of 60%.
Teachers in grades D3 and D2 who make Sh104,644 and Sh91,0401 will receive Sh167, 430 and Sh145, 665 correspondingly, while the grade D4 teacher who earns Sh121, 890 will take home Sh195, 024.
Teachers in grades D1 and C5, who make Sh85,269 and Sh64,631, respectively, will receive Sh136,430 and Sh103,409. Grade C4 would receive Sh83 692 for earning Sh52 308, while Grade C3 will receive Sh86 308 for earning Sh53 943.
It is projected that the instructors in classes C2 and C1, who earned Sh43, 694 and Sh33, 694 respectively, will receive Sh69, 910 and Sh53, 910 while B5, who earned Sh27, 195, will receive Sh43, 512.
