TSC Releases New Interview Dates for Teachers Seeking Promotion.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has declared that it will begin conducting nationwide teacher promotion interviews for primary school teachers early in the next week.
The purpose of the interviews, according to TSC, was to fill 36,505 promotion openings that were posted in September 2023 and will take place in sub-counties.
According to the commission, primary school teachers will be interviewed starting on December 4, 2023, and ending on December 15, 2023. In order to fill 10,819 Senior Teacher II (C2) positions for ordinary schools and 700 spots for special schools, TSC will first select C1 instructors to compete.
TSC listed the following items to be presented during the December promotion interviews.
- Original National ID Card
- Original Academic and Professional Certificates
- Letter of appointment to the current Grade
- Letter of appointment to the current post (where applicable)
- Analysed individual subject results in KCPE/KCSE Examinations for the last three years, certified by TSC County Directors/Sub County Directors.
- Performance Appraisal Reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022

In order to compete for the 36,505 openings, around 150,000 primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and sent interview invitations.
Teachers in secondary schools will be interviewed the following year. It will take place from January 3–16, 2024.
In conventional primary schools, C2 teachers will compete for 3,040 Senior Teacher I (C3) places, and in special schools, 346 slots. In order to fill the 1,930 Deputy Headteacher II (C4) jobs for ordinary primary schools, C3 teachers will have to work quickly.
In C5, 1,049 Headteacher jobs for conventional primary schools and 30 for special schools will be filled by Deputy Headteachers in C4. With a record number of teachers being shortlisted for advancement by TSC, this interview will be unique.
The large number of enrolments, the diversity of courses offered in the classrooms, and the concentration of educational facilities in certain counties have resulted in a teacher shortage in ASALs and other hard-to-staff locations.
Promotions are determined by a set of criteria, according to Macharia, which include financial resources, the existence of available positions, a candidate’s aptitude and merit as shown by their work performances, seniority and experience, yearly performance records, and academic achievements.
