– PTE Certificate from KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council).
– Mean grade of C- (minus) for visually and hearing-impaired persons.
– Special Needs Education – KSL (Kenya Sign Language) and Braille is considered a second teaching subject, such as Biology/KSL or Geography/Braille.

How to Become a Primary School Teacher in Kenya
The TSC is responsible for recruiting and employing registered teachers in Kenya. The commission advertises available vacancies, and interested candidates must submit their applications to the institutions they want to be considered for employment. Selection involves a competitive interview, and candidates need to present various original documents such as their National Identity card, CPE/KCPE certificate, PTE certificate, and school/college leaving certificates.
Institutes Offering Teacher Training
After meeting the minimum entry requirements for teacher training, candidates can enroll in various Kenyan colleges and universities offering teacher training, including institutions like Embu College, Presbyterian Teachers College Rubate, and many others.
This revised qualification system aims to ensure that Kenya produces the best primary school teachers to provide quality education in line with the Competence-Based Curriculum.
