TSC Unsettling News Regarding May Teacher Salaries

TSC Unsettling News Regarding May Teacher Salaries

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has not yet paid teachers’ pay for May 2023.

In order for banks and saccos to process the teachers’ payments over the weekend, many teachers had hoped that the Commission would pay them by Friday.

However, every retailer of teacher salaries is filthy. Teachers are still holding out hope that their paychecks will arrive tomorrow, Monday.

Anxiety About TSC Insider
Currently, instructors are being made afraid about the government’s capacity to pay its employees by a TSC insider.

He alleges that the government isn’t carrying out its regular obligations, including paying its staff members, including instructors.

Teachers should start looking for other ways to survive rather than relying entirely on salaries, which are not promising, especially with the current broke government, according to an insider who also works in the TSC Payroll department.

According to him, this month’s teacher paychecks will be distributed proportionately late. He asserts that junior secondary school instructors who are not being paid may be involved.

About a month had passed since the TSC’s announcement regarding the 17,800 junior secondary school (JSS) teachers who had gone three months without pay.

JSS Teachers’ Salaries Are Delayed
Nancy Macharia, the secretary for the Commission, claims that instructors arriving at their workstations later than expected caused issues with processing wages, which resulted in the payments being delayed.

According to the system, new hires have 30 days to report to their various locations, which causes some of them to begin working later than others, according to Nancy Macharia, CEO of TCS.

She stated that “this sometimes results in delays in the processing of their salaries.” More than half of the wages for the newly hired instructors have already been handled by the commission.

Ms. Macharia asserts that the failure of the impacted employees to promptly submit required documentation may also be a contributing factor in the payment delay.

CS’s Take on Education
Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has requested that TSC make sure that teachers’ salaries are paid on time.

The CS expressed sorrow that more than half of the teachers engaged by the TSC had not yet received payment when he appeared before the National Assembly plenary for questioning by MPs.

Since they reported for duty in February, some of the teachers have not received payment.

I want to express my regret to our teachers for the payment holdup. Some of them we’ve been unable to pay. Nearly half of the recently hired teachers had been paid, according to the CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, who I spoke with today.

For the other half, I’m getting data from the feed so we can pay them. “I assure you that funds are available and that we will be able to make payments promptly,” Machogu

The CS was responding to a query over salary delays from Nominated MP Sabina Chege.

He clarified that the teachers’ various reporting schedules to the schools to which they were allocated were the reason for the delayed salaries.

While some junior secondary school teachers started working at their desks in February, others did so in March.

Governors’ Council
Governors from all 47 counties threatened to halt operations on Monday, claiming a four-month funding delay from the federal government as justification.

The National Treasury still owes counties 94.35 billion, according to Council of Governors chair Anne Waiguru, despite numerous reminders.

According to Waiguru, the national government failed to deliver Ksh94.35 billion, or Ksh31.45 billion, to all 47 counties in February, Ksh29.6 billion in March, and Ksh33.3 billion in April.

The governor’s recent meeting with President William Ruto, according to the Kirinyaga county executive, was undermined by the four-month financing delay.

The four-month delay “contravenes the spirit of the meeting held in Naivasha between His Excellency the President of Kenya and His Excellency the Prime Minister of Kenya” and is unparalleled in the history of devolution. Waiguru said, “The President and the Governors,” on Monday after presiding over a CoG gathering.

She gave Njuguna Ndung’u, the secretary of the Treasury Cabinet, two weeks to pay the money or she would order the county chiefs to halt operations.
