TSC Updated Principal and Deputy Principal Responsibilities

a) Works as the school’s accounting officer.

b) To establish objectives and benchmarks for the school’s activities.

b) Has financial authority over the school.

d) Maintains the facilities and infrastructure of the school.

g) Plans, develops, and oversees the school’s extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

f) Maintains order among the school’s faculty and pupils.

g) Ensures that the school’s official records are maintained, strictly follows the Ministry of Education’s authorized admissions and transfer list, and approves the issuing of testimonies and certificates.

h) Watches over the correct completion of the admission schedule of authorized external exams.

i) Keeps an eye on his deputy principal and deputy-principals’ performance.

j) Should be aware of how government rules and policies affect the educational system.

All incoming and outgoing mail has to be approved for action (k).

Maintains a positive working relationship with the school administration, the old students’ association, the school community, and other important stakeholders.

m) Must offer job descriptions for every member of the support personnel.

n) Must schedule a minimum of six classes per week.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ADMINISTRATION)
In the absence of the Principal, a) assumes control of the school.

b) As the school’s accounting officer and under the tight supervision and control of the principal, keeps the admission registers and issues transfer certificates and testimonials. If those two important documents are not handled and accounted for appropriately, the principal reserves the right to remove them from the Deputy Principal’s (Administration) control.

c) Maintains and keeps track of the staff movement record and attendance book.

d) Creates a weekly duty schedule for the staff and makes sure that they perform their assigned tasks. The coordinator of the week is required to compile weekly reports on the work completed throughout the week and submit them to the Deputy Principal (Administration).

g) compiles statistical information and submits required returns to the proper quarters.

f) Leads the Disciplinary Committee and oversees the upholding of a strict code of conduct for both teachers and students.

g) Is in charge of the welfare of both teachers and students.

h) Ensures that the meetings of the Student Representative are held on a regular basis and that any resolutions are forwarded to the Principal.

i) Signs on behalf of the school as the second signatory.

j) Selects the class instructors after consulting the school principal, and oversees the accurate maintenance of attendance records.

j) Helps the principal with routine correspondence.

l) Keeps an eye on the work of the support employees.

m) Assumes leadership of co-curricular activities that aren’t academic.

n) Completes any additional tasks that the Principal may prescribe.

o) Offers instruction for at least eight hours per week.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL (ACADEMIC) DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Assists the principal in important daily operations pertaining to academics at the school.

b) Assures that current course syllabuses are provided for the various courses.

d) Plans the assignment of subjects to all instructors in consultation with the principal.

d) Works with the time-table committee to create the school schedule.

e) annotates the H.O.Ds’ lesson notes and makes sure that the H.O.Ds annotate the lesson notes of the teachers who report to them.

f) Regularly reviews the lesson missed registrations and evaluates teachers’ performance in respective subject areas.

g) Ensures that the work log is entered into the diaries each week and reviewed at the end of the week.

h) Leads the Examination Committee and oversees the administration, scoring, recording, and maintenance of periodic exams.

i) Keeps current statistical records about academic matters.

j) Takes responsibility of extracurricular activities that are subject-focused, such as subject organizations.

j) Holds regular meetings with Year Tutors and H.O.Ds to discuss academic issues with the consent of the Principal; minutes from these meetings must be given to the Principal within three days.

l) Aids in maintaining general order among staff members and students.

m) Signs the school accounts as one of the three signatories.

n) Serves as the committee’s chairman for the speech and award-giving day.

o) Completes other tasks that the Principal has given him or her.

p) Teach at least eight classes each week.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES (SPECIAL DUTIES)
a) Fully owns the tone of the school and constantly maintains a favorable environment for learning and teaching.

b) Ensures that the school’s physical infrastructure is routinely inspected and maintained.

c) Constantly makes sure that the waste produced by the school is handled and occasionally disposed of. The Vice-Principal (Special Duties), with the cooperation of the school principal, is responsible for overseeing the general sanitation and water supply to the school.

d) The vice principal (special tasks) should be informed of any repairs that are required to be made inside the school, who then informs the school principal.

e) He must supervise and keep track of any external invitational actions.

f) Ensures that school-sponsored social events and activities are bolstered and encouraged.

g) As instructed by the school principal, occasionally supports the other two vice-principals.

h) The Deputy-Principal (Special Duties) provides ongoing assistance to the Principal, who serves as the school’s primary security officer.

In terms of demands, he serves as a liaison between the school and the Sub-County.

j) Offers assistance to the other two vice-principals on academic and extracurricular matters.

k) He completes whatever additional tasks the principal assigns to him or her.

Teaches for at least eight hours each week.
