TSC Warned To Stop Recruiting Teachers Due To Errors

Due to suspected irregularities, a Member of Parliament (MP) and other candidates for teaching positions in Machakos County have petitioned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to halt the hiring process.

In order to guarantee that the recruiting process is conducted equitably, Yatta MP Robert Basil has pleaded with TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia to step in and repeat it.

Basil charged that a problematic hiring process that excluded numerous applicants was managed by the Machakos County office. He insisted that a new exercise be conducted and that it be under the supervision of a new, impartial county director who will assure fairness.

The MP claimed that because persons from outside the area took their jobs, most local teachers lost out on opportunities for employment.

A few of the impacted instructors vowed to strike in protest of the process, which they saw as fraudulent.

The teachers condemned the Commission for the County’s inadequate leadership in a media interview in Machakos Town through their spokesperson.

They claimed that despite being competent, the majority of those who graduated between 2011 and 2012 had been overlooked.

They believe that the exercise was rigged to favor a select few people, and they are now asking TSC to step in and order a redo of the exercise.

Officials from the local chapter of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) also voiced concerns about the hiring procedure.

Yatta KNUT branch Assistant Treasurer Richard Kitaka remarked that the exercise was ‘an abuse to the applicants’. He then demanded that justice be served for all applicants, stating that this could only be done if the procedure was restarted.

The TSC County Director confirmed that his office had received some complaints, but he refrained from saying whether or not the hiring process would be repeated.
