TSC will hire teacher interns on a permanent basis with pension rights.
After a year of service, TSC will hire teacher interns on a permanent basis with pension rights. The Teachers Service Commission has explained why they chose to hire teachers on temporary, non-pensionable terms first rather than immediately on permanent, pensionable terms.
Members of Parliament (MPs) were informed by TSC Chief Executive Officer (CE) Dr. Nancy Macharia on Tuesday that intern teachers would be hired on a permanent basis with a pension after one year of service.
According to Dr. Nancy Macharia, if we enable ourselves to have more interns, we will eventually be able to hire them as teachers.
According to the TSC CEO, the Commission may only hire about 8,000 teachers directly for permanent positions.
They will be on P and P in 2025, she continued, serving as interns for a year before moving on to be absorbed.
Rebecca Tonkei, a Narok County Women’s Representative, asked Dr. Nancy Macharia how long it would take for an intern teacher to be absorbed.
“If you hired 20,000 people this year, how do you intend to keep them on P&P, and how long will they be interns?” tonei posed
Mp Lugari According to Nabii Nabwera, relying solely on interns is not a viable strategy.
Why does the Commission not wish to hire teachers on a permanent and pensionable basis, he questioned.
He questioned, “What is the reason you don’t want to recruit them this year but you want to recruit them in 2024?
In accordance with a memo dated January 11 and signed by TSC Director of Staffing Joseph Mugele, all teachers serving internship terms in 2022 were hired on permanent, pensionable terms.
“On January 13, the exercise’s interviews and hiring will begin.”
The director asked that the intern teachers remain on the staff.
According to him, this would make it easier to wait for their personnel under the new conditions.
10,000 of the teachers will be employed on permanent, pensionable conditions, according to a statement from TSC released in December, while 25,550 will be hired on an internship basis.
9,000 of the openings, according to reports, are for permanent secondary school instructors, 1,000 are for primary school teachers, and 21,550 are for intern teachers for junior secondary schools.
According to the Commission, 4,000 more intern instructors will soon be hired for primary schools.
