TSC Will Not Hire These Types of Teachers

Teachers in elementary and secondary schools are now required to take part in a retraining program that lasts for a complete academic year in order to be prepared to satisfy the demands of the new curriculum.

The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) drafting report, which emphasizes the importance of having educators accept the CBC, has this proposal.

The CBC, which has been in place for the previous seven years, will continue to serve as educators’ main resource after they have finished their retraining. The task group has proposed that the Ministry of Education (MOE) take over the training that was previously provided by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Within a year of the updated plans receiving approval for implementation, the TSC will be replaced by the ministry.

The Ministry of Education will publish guidelines for the necessary retraining that all teachers who got their degrees before to the year 2023 will need in order to meet the curricular changes. The task team came to the conclusion that insufficient levels of teacher skill and preparation were the biggest obstacles to implementing CBC. Stakeholders who had previously participated in TSC’s CBC trainings had complained that the sessions had been either too brief or too superficial, or that the instructors lacked the essential experience.

Those who expressed their concerns also mentioned inconsistent approaches to interpreting curriculum designs and a lack of suitable replies to their worries.

The creation of the Kenya Teachers Training College has been proposed as part of a plan to raise the standard of instruction offered in Kenyan schools. More Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) are expected to house satellite campuses of this parent institution.
