TSC will post 20,000 openings for intern teachers next week.

Next week, 20,000 openings for intern teachers will be posted, according to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi said that qualified applicants can apply for the seats when the announcement is made next week at the 46th KESSHA Conference in Mombasa.

Muturi also disclosed that the commission will receive an additional budget of Sh323.7 billion in the fiscal year 2023–24, which is a Sh24 billion increase above the amount allotted for 2022–23.

Sh4.6 billion will be used to hire intern teachers in order to help the nation’s teacher shortage.

Additionally, Sh1 billion has been set aside for teacher promotions, including those of principals who have lagged for a long time. Sh1.3 billion more would be invested on capacity-building.

Additionally, the commission has trained 163,938 instructors nationally in the use of distance learning.

Through this program, a teacher from Machakos High School will be able to use technology to virtually instruct pupils at Kanga High School.

In addition to the government’s current attempts to hire additional teachers, Muturi indicated that this endeavor intends to address the country’s teacher shortage crisis.

The government hired 30,550 instructors for junior secondary schools during the 2022–2023 fiscal year. Out of these, 21,550 were intern teachers, while 9,000 were regular employees with pension rights.

Each school received a single teacher for each stream under the deployment system.

Muturi challenged principals to use the few resources at their disposal wisely and creatively in order to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

He urged them to come up with creative ways to make money in order to supplement the frequently meager government financing.

A fully functional wellness facility with qualified medical staff has been developed by TSC, according to Muturi, to help with the rehabilitation of principals and teachers who develop alcoholism, drug addiction, or other substance misuse due to the stress of their jobs.
